How to make an unforgettable holiday card

How to make an unforgettable holiday card

Every year around Christmas time, your mailbox likely fills up with greeting cards from friends, family, and coworkers. A lot of them look the same and get boring. If you are going to send out a greeting card for the holidays this year, make yours something special that everyone will be excited to open and see. Here are several Christmas card photo ideas!

Don?t forget the photos
While you could send a standard greeting card with a Christmas tree or dove on it for Christmas, your friends and family members would be much happier to see a photo of your smiling faces! Photo cards are always the best option for holiday cards, especially if you have children. These cards are something people are likely to save and treasure.

Plan in advance
If you don?t start thinking about Christmas card photo ideas until November, you won?t have time to put together something special and will be too busy to enjoy the meaning of Christmas. It?s important to plan ahead!

Several months before Christmas, begin to make a list of everyone you will want to send a card to. You should also begin gathering the addresses of these people well in advance. Not only will this save you time with mailing out the cards once the busy holiday season arrives, but it will also give you enough time to make sure you don?t leave anybody out!

If you live somewhere that gets very cold in the winter, consider taking your family photo much earlier in the year, when it is warmer outside. This will give you much more flexibility with both the setting of the photo and the clothing you wear. If you wait until it?s too chilly out, you are stuck taking the picture inside or bundled up in winter clothing!

Get creative
Most people who send out Christmas card photos use the same image: the family standing in front of the Christmas tree or sitting on the couch. Be more original! Sit down with your family and brainstorm some fun and creative Christmas card photo ideas.

One of the best Christmas cards I?ve seen had a photo of the family on vacation in Italy, laughing while stuck in a flock of flying pigeons. It was funny, cute and original. Consider using a great photo like this from a family vacation. Or pick a funny theme, like having everyone wear ugly Christmas sweaters. If that doesn?t appeal, think of a family pastime that you all enjoy, such as horseback riding or boating, and use a great family photo of you all partaking in that activity together.

Leave a message
Many people do not bother to include a message with their Christmas cards. It simply says the name of the family members or has signatures. Just because you are sending the same card to dozens of people doesn?t mean it has to be so impersonal. One great idea I have seen several families do is type up a ?family newsletter? that highlights what major events have happened in the last year. They slip it in the envelope with the card and it adds a more personal touch, and allows out-of-town friends and family members to know whether you have been naughty or nice.
