Let your imagination go wild when decorating the nursery
There are so many potential baby nursery decorating ideas that it can make your head spin. You can opt to go with a traditional blue or pink color palette and then spice it up with any number of complementary splashes of color that can be used in your accessories or bedding. Or you can forget tradition altogether and use an unusual color palette with an unexpected theme and designs.
Since your baby will be lying down a lot in the beginning, paint the ceiling. This will give him something to look at. In addition, painting the ceiling will make the room look more spacious and airy.
Get out your paint brush, or hire an artist, to paint a cloud mural on the ceiling. You can also include the sun, moon, stars and birds in the mural. To paint a cloud mural on the ceiling, first paint the ceiling light blue. Then mix four parts of faux glaze to one part latex white paint. Dip a damp sea sponge into the white glaze, blotting it so that there is no excess paint on it. Sponge cloud shapes onto the ceiling. Paint a bird into the scene or include a rainbow. Carry out the cloud theme in pillows or in the crib bedding material.
If you cannot paint, or would rather not undertake the project, purchase cloud wallpaper that you can apply to your ceiling. Another baby nursery decorating idea is to buy cloud decals.
Do not be afraid of using color, which can be incorporated in window coverings, area rugs, crib bedding and artwork. Consider using bright splashes of lime green, red, orange and citrusy yellow. The carpet or flooring that you choose is an ideal place to insert color into the nursery.

If you have your mind set on a specific theme for the nursery, the sky is the limit when it comes to choices.
There are fairy tale themes to choose from, such as Cinderella or Snow White. A jungle theme would be fascinating. Jungle animals can be painted on the wall, as can a rain forest. If you have a passion for the old west a cowboy or cowgirl vintage style theme would be clever and original.
Comic strips are a good source for inspiration. Consider using a Snoopy theme or Marvel comics. If you are a baseball aficionado use that as your starting point and create a sports themed room. Dr. Seuss or Sesame Street can be your muse for baby nursery decorating ideas. Choose nursery bedding in solid colors or patterns, and accessories, to compliment whatever theme you select.
Once you have finished decorating the nursery, thoroughly babyproof it. There should be no mini blind cords in the reach of the baby. Do not put the crib near a window or cords. Use a cord wind-up device or bracket to secure the cord blinds, keeping them out of reach.
Babies will climb so make sure that nursery furniture is kept away from the window. A baby can climb out of his crib or up on a chair and then accidentally fall out of a screened window. The windows and screens need to be latched securely.
Use electrical plug covers and install a smoke alarm in the nursery. If you utilize a vaporizer situate it so that the baby cannot get burned by the team.
Some homes that were built before 1978 contain lead paint, which is toxic if your baby picks paint off of the wall and eats it. There are tests kits available at home improvement stores that you can use to determine if there is lead content in the paint or you can have a professional test the paint. If it is lead paint, you need to follow the proper procedures to seal and cover or remove it.
Once your baby is ambulatory, remove the bumper guards from her crib because she can climb on them and toppled out of bed. Do not hang artwork or shelves over the crib because they can fall on the baby and hurt her.
Most importantly, purchase a baby crib that is safe. The beauty of your baby nursery is important but it is secondary to the safety of your child.
