How to combat stress naturally

By Catalogs Editorial Staff

Learn how to combat stress naturally and give yourself a mental health break

Everyone can use a few healthy techniques that help them combat minor stress in everyday life. I would like to note that this is not intended to be medical advice. If you have serious or persistent problems with stress you should consult with a trained medical or psychiatric professional.

However, many daily stresses can be overcome with proper coping mechanisms and other natural methods.

Step Back

If a situation is causing you stress and discomfort it is sometimes best to excuse yourself to regather your mental faculties. Sometimes you may need to go for a walk, take some time to sit in a comfy place and think or distract yourself with a little bit of music or reading.

Remember, you will likely not be doing yourself or anyone else any good by staying in a stressful situation until it overwhelms you.

Try Herbs and Teas

There are a number of all natural teas and herbal supplements that have been used for centuries by cultures all over the world to treat illnesses of both the body and mind. Teas that include ingredients like chamomile, lavender, and valerian root are easy on the body yet effective in soothing a troubled mind.

These teas can be purchased from herb and natural remedy stores online, or found at your local grocery store. However, when dealing with anxieties or persistent stresses, it can be easier to buy these teas online in bulk so that you always have some in the house. The same goes for herbs. You can try buying dry herbs in bulk to make your own perfect tea mix. For example, dry lemon balm, lavender, and marigold flowers make a beautiful, delicious bedtime tea.

It also helps to do a bit of research if you are in need of something stronger. There are plants and herbs that have naturally sedative qualities that prove quite useful for those who suffer from severe stress or anxiety.

Kava is just one example of an anti-anxiety supplement that can be purchased that has a stronger, more sedative-like effect. Capsules and supplements found at your favorite health food or wellness shop are potential goldmines for people without access to traditional healthcare. Supplements such as Holy Basil and St. John?s Wort are two that do not have immediate effects, but when taken consistently for a minimum of two weeks, helps your brain respond better to stress so that the effects are more manageable.

In this article we have gone over a few of the ways that it is possible to combat stress naturally, without a doctor or a prescription. There are a variety of avenues through which it is possible to achieve clarity and peace from stress?some that can be found in a grocery store and some that can be found in a field.
