Big nuts in gift towers, boxes, or tins

Who wants little nuts? Give ?em the gift of big nuts and big gift baskets

Sometimes, I go a little nuts. When I can’t find the remote, when I’m faced with road rage, when I used to work for the United States Postal Service. What can I say, I’m used to being nutty. Of course, I have to keep that under control to do every day things like keep my job, meet with my kids’ teachers, go to the neighborhood potluck dinner…you get the idea.

But when it comes to giving nuts as gifts, I say the bigger the better. Big nuts, big gift towers, big gift baskets and big boxes and tins full of nuts. And why not?  After all nuts are healthy. Those little buggers are a great source of protein, heart-healthy fats and all kinds of anti-inflamatory goodness.

So where do you find some seriously big nuts in seriously impressive gifts? Here are some of my fave sources for fresh, tasty nuts in big quanities.

Let’s start with almonds

Almost a century ago, the famous healing psychic Edgar Cayce said that eating a few almonds everyday would keep you healthy. Of course, most people ignored him, because he was claiming to get his information from people who were dead, but it turns out he was right.

As few as six raw, unsalted almonds every day can lower your risk of high cholesterol, cancer, osteoporosis and high blood pressure.

If you want to send someone some serious amounts of almonds, served up in a huge basket with lots of fruits and chocolate and other yummy treats, search for online gift companies and check out their monsterous baskets.

And then there are the cashews…

Cashews are another nut you should be adding to your diet, and sending in huge quanities to other people too. Like almonds, they’re good for your heart, they provide a great balance of protein and fiber and they’re a good source of Vitamin E, too.

Sending someone a two pound basket of cashews is certain to register as an impressive gift, and that’s what Sphinx Date Ranch offers on their site.

Pecan gifts as big as Texas

Of course, this makes sense!  Pecans come mostly from Texas, and everyone knows everything is bigger in Texas. And over at Pecan.com, they package those big, delicious pecans in baskets that look like the State of Texas, an armadillo or cowboy hat, just so everyone will know where they came from.

And as for the health benefits, they aren’t small either. According to a recent medical journal article, just an handful of pecans a day can help prevent degenerative brain diseases like ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease.)

Pistachios by the peck

You know that old rhyme about Peter Piper and his peck of pickeled pepper?  Well, you can enjoy an entire peck of entirely un-pickled treats from Hale Groves — that’s over 48 ounces of tasty, yummy, delicious fresh pistachios for you or someone special.

Like the other nuts, these hard-to-resist treats are good for your heart and can reduce inflamation throughout the body. That can help ward off diabetes, cancer and other illnesses.

These are an ancient nut. In fact, pistachios are biblical and are mentioned in the Torah in Genesis 43:11. And according to Muslim legend, the pistachio was one of the foods brought to Earth by Adam.
